To Pocket or Not To Pocket?

I have been rather monogamous in my knitting as of late, and have finished* up the Corona hoodie.

Oooo, don't I look horribly smug!
I'm throwing my arms up in the air - yes, this is another very badly lit bathroom-night-time-gotta-take-a-pic photo. As you may be able to tell, this is not an FO pic - my camera is currently on vacation, and will return in a few days time.

I say finished* with an asterisk because I'm undecided as to whether I should put a pocket on the front of the hoodie. You know, a hoodie pouchy pocket. I have plenty of yarn to do it with, but I'm not sure if it will spoil the garment. I like pockets on hoodies, so I'm slightly divided over the issue.

What do you think? Pocket or no pocket?

I am (sort of, at one point, probably) planning on making another one of these, but with a different cable pattern. Not that I don't like this little honeycomb pattern, but I was sort of envisioning a wider cabled edging than this.

I've also learned a lesson: don't try to make up a new-fangled hood design without thinking the damn thing through thoroughly. I thought I'd be sooooo clever and make a hood that would sit flat on my head, as opposed to doing that little elven pointy thing that many-a-hoodie does. The plan, she no worked out. The rip-back wasn't as terrible as it could have been, but a mathematically-humbling experience it certainly was. Does anyone know of a pattern that gives you a "flat-top" hoodie?

Gracious, I'm full of questions (and attempts at deadpan sarcastic wit).

I'll post back in a couple days' time with the results of the Great Pocket Indecision of 2008.

And FO photos.

Good ones this time.

Pocket. (Could you BE more svelte?!)

I'm not sure about the pocket because it might be too much between the low, cabled V-neck and the long bout of ribbing at the bottom.
Also, I love this sweater and I never, ever knit pullovers but I would knit this 9,132 times. I love it.

First off, it's gorgeous! And I really like it the way you have it right now, with sort of an extended collar like that. I vote no pocket for the same reasons as jessica marie

i say pocket, so long as it incorporates the honeycomb pattern to tie it in with the rest of the design. gorgeous as is, though!

No pocket! This is gorgeous as it is. Well, maybe you could knit up a pocket and have a look whether you would like it. I just know that if I knit this sweater, I wouldn't go with pocketing it. At the moment it highlights your waistline so nicely, that I wouldn't like to see it spoilt.

I say no pocket, with that nice deep v-neck and the cable detailing it already has enough excitement going on. It looks gorgeous, wow.

I'm in the no pocket camp - let the honeycomb detail shine all on its own.

I vote for a pocket. I think pockets work for some sweaters, but not all... and I think this sweater would look slammin' with a pocket! Nice job!

Love the sweater, it looks great on you! The TechKnitting blog has an entry on making hats flat topped, maybe that could work for hoods too? I would leave off the pocket, but if I did one I'd line it with non-stretch fabric so it didn't pooch.

How I love your new hoodie! Very flattering on you. Love the honeycomb pattern too.

I vote for no pocket; I think the sweater is just perfect like it is!

I'm a little undecided. I love it as it is, and also think there might be too much going on with pockets added. Then again, they sometimes really do add that extra edge an item needs.
If undecided, I'd rather leave it off I guess.

I'm going to vote no pocket! I personally don't need any extra bulk around my midsection, although I know that having a pocket there is fun, in an I'm-pretending-to-be-a-marsupial kind of way. : P

I loooooooooove it! It is a GORGEOUS sweater. I vote no pocket, just 'cause I like it the way it is, but if you decided otherwise, I do think it would be cute.

Unfortunately I have no hood advice -- have you tried tinkering around with short rows?

I vote no pocket. I like the clean look for this particular sweater.

The Rogue sweater pattern from the Girl From Auntie site has a flat hood top. I knitted it and although I made messed up looking decreases, the hood lies nice and normal. No point. Do a google search of images and you'll see.

I also vote for no pocket. It looks good on you as is.

No pocket. It is a fantastic sweater without one. I think a pocket would take away from the waistband, which looks great and makes you look fantastic. A wonderful, amazing sweater that I totally wish was in my wardrobe!

Thank you everyone! I'm so flattered :)
I'll be posting the FO in a few days.

Lovely, but aren't your sleeves a bit short? No pocket, definitely not, you would draw attention away from the cabled v-neck, which is just georgeous

Could you turn it into something similar to a sleeve cap?

Sleeve cap... that's an idea! I've also had a suggestion that (if I knew how to) I could make it like a giant heel flap.
Hrm... must learn to knit socks :)
