Colourwork Conundrum

This is nearly a "what I'm working on" post.
It's still just a fermenting idea.

I picked up a few sweet little colourwork hanks from Fleece Artist in April, and so I'm dreaming about a cropped, colourwork yoke sweater.

One neat trick you can do to test out the suitability of colours is to photograph them together, and strip the colour from it by switching it to black and white.

Brooklyn Tweed has a great, in-depth post about how this process works. Basically, if you want distinct colourwork, you want yarn colours that, when switched to black and white, have distinct tones. They should stand out from each other. You can see how the wine coloured yarn is quite different from the gold and cream, but the gold and cream aren't suuuuper different from each other.

So, I'm wondering: should I move ahead with these three colours?

SECRET KNITTING! This is for a project that is super exciting and I wish I could share more with you but must limit myself to this photo of some beauty Knits In Class yarn. Look at that twist! Look at that soft, wonderfully warm colour!

What I'm Working On

Just a quick one with minimal info today, because this is secret gift knitting! My sister is having a baby, and this will be my first wee niece/nephew.

The yarn is some lovely 100% BFL wool from Fleece Artist in the Jade colourway. I picked it up (for free!) last month at the Toronto Knitter's Frolic.

This one is a three sweater collaboration I'm working on with the talented Kirsten Singer and Holly Priestley.
The yarn is the very pretty Sport weight from Blue Sky Alpaca. Watch this blog for further details. This puppy is due out in the autumn. I can't wait to wear this sample!!

Quick peek at my progress on the very pretty Velma.

This is a fuzzy warm sweater designed by my friend Allyson. It was inspired by her long-furred pet cat, Velma.
I'm working on it in a super deep stash collection of old Handmaiden yarn. Just on the front panel right now, and looking forward to rounding out the neckline and moving on to picking up stitches (Yes, you heard me, looking forward to picking up stitches).

Cause I know this sweater is going to be great!

I'm really excited about this one. It's got me thinking of the warm weather, cause it's for Holla Knits Summer issue.
I just mailed the sample off... and I already can't wait to get it back!

This one is a dreamy cabled confection. SO many twists and turns. Should be out in a few months!

This one is a colour play. Might be quite a while until this puppy is out, but man, am I ever having fun with this knit!
