Having waited a few weeks for the cross-city bus-tacular journey, I've now just returned from my trip to the sewing/textiles district and have the booty here for display. My poor semi-neglected almost-knit is thisclose to completion, but requires some extra input.
Being the way I am, one choice couldn't be made in the store. I must call on everyone's input, and ask for a hand in selecting which button best complements this yarn.
Also, I love the wee buttons decorating the street signs, seen here:
Incidentally, I needed to photog the various thematic decor sprinkled through the district.
I'm a fan of this colourful addition to the streetscape.
Now, on to those buttons.
From furthest away, moving forward:
1 - plain old semi-transparent white plastic, with a bit of a flower pattern cut on top.
2 - cool shanked yellowish (well, almost sepia-toned) button with Roman numeral clock design
3 - plastic shanked leopard print (closest to what I had originally been thinking of for this knit)
4 - pretty light-coloured shanked wood button with scroll pattern incised on top
5 - opaque white plastic shanked button with neato twistys
As you can probably tell, they're all different sizes. I do believe I can work with them all, though I might be pushing it with the smallest, #1.
The whimsical #2 has a pretty high unique/cool factor, but I only have three of them and I might need for. Well, four might be preferable.
Numbers #4 and #5 are quite pretty, but I wonder if they're too light, and perhaps stand out too much against the purpley yarn?
Thanks in advance for all input! I'm looking forward to this as an autumn knit, so I've a few weeks to make up my mind and complete it.

I vote clock or leopard!!
- Julie
I like the clock (#2) or wood buttons (#4).
Numbers 2 and 3 are my favorites for this knit, in that order. I love the clock button - it's cool and very different. But if you have to have four buttons, then I vote for the leopard print button, as it's darkish tones match well with the purple/plum.
i vote leopard. i like the darkness of it; i think it goes with the yarn the best. and it's fun! my second vote is for the clocks, which are indeed awesome (and the 2nd darkest).
(i'm not sure if i've commented here yet, but i've been reading for a month or so. hello!)
Nice choice of buttons! I really really love the ones with the clock and the wood spirally design, I may have to pick some of those up for myself.
My vote is for 3 or 4 :)
My vote goes for the little ones at the top, or the leopard. But like you said, the leopard is darker so I'm leaning in favor of those. :)
Leopard. :)
I think your first instinct was the right one -- leopard all the way! All the buttons are fab, but there's just somethin' about that leopard against the purple that is extremely awesome. The clock is a close second, though.
I always have a really hard time deciding on notions too!
I think the your first choice, the leopard would look great. Otherwise I like 4 and 5 too.
I vote for 2 or 4.
Number one looks kind of small, probably too small. Number two, love the clock. Number three, personally not for animal prints. Number four, love the swirly design and think the color seems the best for the yarn. Number five, nice design but looks too light and stand-out-ish.
I vote either 3 or 4
I love the leopard!
I really dig that button with the clock face motif.
I like the wood best, leopard second. But it also depends on the "feel" you're going for--classic? hip & funky? I think I might have some clock buttons if you end up choosing that one and need some.
The Clock, even if you need the fourth one. It is just to unique to pass it up and the color works.
I vote for the Roman Numberals.... love the signage from Ottawa, one of my favorite places to travel!
I like #5 best, although that could change if I saw the buttons against the whole garment.
You've got a sewing district? Wow... *wishes her town had one too*
Anyway, I think the middle three ones are best, clock, leo or wood...I think the leo button is the best match for the yarn (love that purple by the way!).
I like #3 the best.
Clocks all the way!
