Yeah... that's a picture of me, quietly, frantically, hoping that the bleach will sort out the sad thing I did to my hair.
So, without giving all the gory details, I thought that I'd be able to apply a beautiful blue shade right over top of this bleach job you see below.
This photo actually looks pretty cool, and I was a bit enamoured with the sunset-effect it gave.
But, I can be stubborn, and applied the blue anyway.
So, yes. It turned green.
I bleached it, and have resolved to
1) never get my hair bleached at a salon. They're the ones who were supposed to bring it right back to a blonde so that I could apply the blue. Instead, they made it that pretty sunset you see above.
and
2) never try blue again.
Am I wrong? I have railed against blue before - if it had turned the colour intended, it would have been a lovely blue.
But, I've been bitten, and am now chroma-shy.
Don't tell me I'm the only mug who's dyed their hair green...

my grandmother (an experienced hairdresser who owned a salon for years and years). She didn't leave the house for the whole weekend and we had to buy her some new stuff so she could fix her hair... it was absolutely hilarious (she didn't agree)..
The sunset look is awesome tho ;) :D
My sister. Three different shades and also blue, purple, black, yellow, a lovely red, a garish screaming red and hot pink. Not all the colours were ones she was aiming for.
My hair is currently RED when it was supposed to be burgundy. Oh well, everyone loves it so I guess it can't be too hideous.
Love your blog btw.
Died my hair blue once. Midnight blue by Punky Colors. It's amazing. Want to dye my long hair blue again, but think it may not go over so well. How professional do I have to be to TA anyway?
What brand did you use? I strongly recommend punky colors. And having a friend who plays with extreme colors to help. I died it purple after the blue began to fade (and starting turning a funny green color) but the dye was cheap--no punky colors available in my tiny college town. It faded in about a week and the hair was terrifying.
The real silver lining here is that you didn't do it to your entire head- some streaks in pretty much any colour can look cool!
The green hair scene in Anne of Green Gables comes immediately to mind... http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Anne_of_Green_Gables/Chapter_XXVII
But don't feel too bad. Lots of cool kids have green hair for a while! (Ramona Flowers of Scott Pilgrim V. The World, anybody?)
Here's that chapter from Anne of Green Gables...
Ummm... yeah - been there, done that. Ended up with every color but blue - and some of them were pretty fun, too! Of course, this was in 1980-something and they didn't know about color what they know now...
Honestly - yours looks pretty cool.
Whoa. A salon did that bleach job? I hope you refused to pay for it.
I've had blue hair before. It was awesome for awhile but it does eventually fade to a greenish color. I ended up dying over it to a purple color.
First things first - if they didn't think they could do the job, they shouldn't have agreed and therefore you shouldn't have had to pay for that, because that's a botch job!!
Now, you're not the only one, but I recommend you read KillerStrands' blog on blogspot and read all she has to say on bleaching. I have bright white platinum hair thanks to her knowledge!
Blue is really really hard to accomplish. I've been trying to get my hair dyed midnight blue for something like 5 years, and NO ONE believes I really actually want it blue. So they dye it dark brown instead.
Did you try putting some blue manic panic on it?
Ack! Oh no! The good thing is that those sorts of mistakes are usually reversible in some way or another. I'm dying to know what you did to the streak to fix it! As a blonde, I've always, always wanted to do something funky with color (blonde just seemed so blah) but have never had the guts. Though it did used to get really green when I went swimming a lot in the summers as a child. That was really attractive.
You poor thing, there is nothing worse then having your hair butchered at a salon. Almost every single time I've tried to go to one I leave resembling Miss Piggy with big blond hair. I am too chunky and pale to resemble her in any way shape or manner.
Back to the color issue, if that were to happen again you could dye red over the green. It brings it right back to brown. My hair has been every color in the rainbow and has had to be uniquely corrected on more than occasion.
As a professional colorist, I have to wonder that they didn't warn you about it turning green. I do lots of crazy colors but always try to discourage blue. You have to get the hair ALL the way to pale yellow and by then it's so fried that it can't hold the blue pigment for more tha a week or two. Also, if there is previous dark pigment on the hair, it might not get all the way to pale yellow. Depending on the situation, it can just dissolve away while still blazing orange.
If you're fixing it yourself, use semi permanent, not permanent. The only practical difference is that permanent opens up the hair shaft more and yours is open plenty. :(
Good luck and don't be afraid. Hair grows back and (can be) such a fun way to change a look. :)
I changed stylists and wow what a difference! the new one really gets how colour works. I showed her the same picture I showed the previous stylist and lo! I had what I wanted. Not what the stylist thought should be.
