Must-Haves: Knitting Book Read Along

I love books.
And knitting books, especially.

I learned to knit from Stitch n' Bitch, expanded my skills with the Principles of Knitting, began to understand more about yarn from Clara Parkes, and delighted over the fantastic combination of techniques and patterns with Little Red in the City.

Staring at my dangerously overloaded bookshelf last week gave me a light bulb moment: I'd LOVE to read these books (again, in some cases, and for the first time in others). I know I get more things done to a deadline, and would love to have company to talk about these must-have gems with.

So this post has a couple questions:

1) Would you be interested in joining a Knitting Book Read-Along?

2) What would you say are some must-have knitting books?

I need to see knitting charts and diagrams, so hearing a knitting book read aloud is not high on my list.

Deborah Newton's Designing Knitwear and Finishing School are high on my list, as well as all of Barbara G Walker's Treasuries of Knitting Patterns. Maggie Righatti's book whose name I forgot was also excellent.

A knitting-read-along sounds fun! My favorite knitting books are 'Knitting Around the World' 'The Knitter's Life List' and 'Purls of Wisdom' amongst many others. I have a whole shelf of knitting books.

Knitting Without Tears and Knitter's Almanac by EZ. Like hanging out with your favorite auntie.

Sounds interesting. When I came back to knitting I read the first stitch n Bitch cover to cover.
I have Little Red in the City but have not taken the time to read it.

I think that's a great idea. Knitting books only? Or knitting based novels - or novels that mention knitting? All would be great - new books too.

YES - plus that would give me an excuse to pick up some of the must-haves! It's so easy to get stuck in a rut, I'd love a change of perspective like this!

Great idea! I have so many knitting books that I've only skimmed or read portions of. I think Little Red in the a City would be a great read. Also anything Elizabeth Zimmerman.

I'd love to read along. Must have books include EZ's knitting without tears, Clara Parkes Book of Yarn and Book of Wool. I also learned from Stitch and Bitch (long ago passed it on to a new knitter) and I also love Wendy Bernard's Custom Knits. A good stitch dictionary is invaluable, though probably not a great read- but maybe a swatch a long is a good idea. Especially if people in the group chose different yarn weights and compared results. Let me know what you decide to read, and I'm in.
