Apples Apples Everywhere (and a Canary)

Photobucket
Being autumn, the many lovely apples growing happily on my dad's farm are ripe and ready to be plucked from the nefarious clutches of various voracious birds and critters and delivered to my now very sweet smelling kitchen.

The wonder that is Ravelry gave me a hankering for apple butter, and so I whipped up a few jars of that, along with some applesauce (well, much applesauce. So much that I need to invent ways to use it. Any good applesauce recipes?)

Here I play with a selection of the jarred purée, accompanied by a few apples and my wee Butters.

Mhhhh, nothing better than apple sauce. :D
Never heard of apple butter before though, sounds intriguing. I'll have to try that with some apples from the farmer's market (not having a father with an apple farm - neat!).

Mmm...apple butter. When I was a kid I didn't like jelly at all. Every day for lunch my mom would pack me a peanut butter and apple butter sandwich. I was the only one who ate it, so she always had to buy a jar just for me. The rest of my family thought I was weird. But...YUM.

I often substitute applesauce for half of the oil in some quick bread recipes. This is my fav zucchini bread - 1/2 c. of applesauce use up! http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Zucchini-Bread-IV/Detail.aspx

I love apple butter!! I make it every fall, and G just loves the stuff. That's so awesome that your dad has lots of apple trees!
