Knit me Happy

Photobucket
Now that the winter is winding down, I have fewer knits-in-the-wild to spot. I would usually spend my (excruciating) time on the bus mentally knitting any garment that came into my field of vision.
"Oh, that cabelled hat is cute, looks like an 8 stitch cable..."
"I could do that colourwork in Mission Falls!"
"If only I knew how to sew a zipper into a FO..."

I'm now having to content myself with reading the sporadic advertisements lining the bus-walls. (And that's just a recipe for depression.)
So, as the warm-weather looms up in front of me like a... looming... mass of... heat... thoughts turn to "how to keep me happy until I can wear that wool sweater again." (If there are any consta-warm-climate knitters out there, I'd love to know how you do it).

This year I'm being very proactive. One Lettuce Knit trip later, and I've my arms full o' scarletty, Alchemy Bamboo goodness. (There's also a Toronto yarn-crawl in the works).
Has anyone ever used bamboo before? It looks quite loverly, with a nice sheen and silky feel. I'm looking forward to knitting with it!

I sort of wish I lived in Alaska...
(with Marilyn and Joel and Maggie and Maurice and Ed!)
I could knit orange sweaters all day long.

Ahh, another Northern Exposure fan! :)

Bamboo works up lovely and is soft.. I made the Lotus Blossom Tank from the SWTC Bamboo and it's lovely to wear in the Summer. I'm planning on making more tops from other bamboo yarns at some point this Summer. Good Luck on your quest.

I know what you mean, though I am happy for the warmer weather. Spring seems to be teasing us now. I say bring on the spring knits! Who says you can't knit for next winter, stockpile! lol

I still mentally unknit anything I see. I have even started checking out interesting patterns, and thinking about translating them into knitted patterns.

Ah the knitted obsession...

I'm making a very pretty skirt at the moment with SWTC Bamboo like Kai and it's just wonderful. There are a few knots in each ball but that's about all the cons I can find about this yarn. Really who cares about 1-2 knots per ball when the yarn makes such a wonderful, soft, drapey fabric...oooo I just love it! I can't wait to finish it so I can actually wear it.

Oooh, I fondled that Alchemy bamboo yesterday during the scavenger hunt...but I resisted! It was very hard to leave it behind! I've never knit with bamboo either so I didn't know what I could use it for; I was afraid it would stretch out like cotton, but maybe not. Can't wait to see what you make with your bamboo!

How do you get so many comment on this filler post?

Thanks so much everyone! I'll get back to all re: bamboo behaviour. I certainly hope it doesn't stretch like cotton :|

alas, I have seen it stretch out. Knit up a swatch and pin it to a vertical surfacelike a bulletin board. Measure today and then in a couple of days, it'll give you an idea anyway....

Oh, what a good idea!
Thanks, must try that first.
