Hunting

Thanks so much to everyone for your very kind words on my previous post! I'll post the FO pics within a couple days.
(As you can see, I couldn't wait to get the camera back to post a new post).
An idea's jumped into my head for a knit.
And the inspiration came from this here fowl pictured below.
Photobucket
I burrowed into my stash and couldn't come up with the appropriate yarn. I've done a very cursory search online (mostly Rav), and didn't see anything that particularly caught my eye.
What I'm looking for is a yarn with some lustre (ie: some silk content) yet with some memory (ie: wool). Also, something with a very small gauge would do nicely. I'm thinking 6-7 stitches per inch.
Heard of such a thing? If so, I'd love to know what it is and what you thought of it.
Yarn reviews are second only to FOs/patterns in my list of great knitting stuffs on the internets.

I love Malabrigo silky merino, and you might be able to get 6 stitches per inch.

i've recently used seawool by fleece artist for a lace project and it worked out great. although there's no silk, the seacell gives it a nice sheen, it has a nice drape & i think the gauge would work

Jaggerspun in fabulous!
While I realise that you're a VERY long way away from australia, if you go to yarnsonline.com.au, they have some very nice things that may interest you and/or that you may be able to find somewhere a little closer to you!
I've gotta say, I love your blog, I often pop over to see your stuff when I'm running low on inspiration!

I don't (I see it randomly in yarn shops) but the Great Adirondack Yarn Company has many colour-blends reminiscent of the peacock's plumage. Here is a photograph of one example:

Hmm...there are a couple of silk/merino blends I've used and really liked, but they're all heavy worsted. The Malabrigo Silky Merino, as spencer says, could possibly be knit up at 6sts/in on small enough needles. I believe it comes in a gorgeous peacock blue, as well.

I love peacocks...thus cannot wait to see what you're cooking up!
