Warm December Greetings to you...
While I sit here pondering the possibilities of cashmere-golden goodness, as-yet-to-be-formed Christmas gifts and the surprisingly tasty/incongruous pairing of chili spice and dark chocolate, I find my brain whizzing through the imaginary library catalogue I maintain and coming up with no satisfactory results for my next read.
Can anyone suggest any wintery/Decembery sorts of novels to put one in the merry-making spirit?
Last year it was Dickens' "Christmas Carol" (slightly obvious, I know. But I was having difficulty coming up with a seasonally-themed novel then, as well).
They say a storm is on the way tonight. It's perfect reading weather!
Now, if I could only fit a fireplace in my apartment...

Um... When Santa fell to Earth by Cornelia Funke. That or Little Women... That's all I got for Christmas books... Strange. For the storm tonight, I'llbe watching Die Hard with D. Ah, quality time.
I was going to reccomend Little Women as well..I love that book.
When Santa Fell to Earth? I will have to check that out. I love Cornelia Funke.
There is a book by Frank Baum (spelling?), the same guy that did the Wizard of Oz books, called Santa Claus..which is (oddly enough lol)a fictional story about how Santa Claus came to be...it's been a while since I read it but I love it.
We got a storm here in Seattle as well...but I am curling up with my knitting and an audiobook..The Shining by Steven King.
Thanks for the suggestions!
Oddly, I have heard "The Shining" referred to as a cozy movie. I don't get that vibe from it, myself!
At Christmas I read Stitches in Time by Barbara Michaels. It's not about Christmas, but the story takes place at Christmas time; it's about a quilt with a curse on it.
(If you look this book up at Amazon, don't read the Publishers Weekly review. It gives away the whole plot, then says the book sucks. Jeeesh.)
Thanks Hope! I now have a selection of books for Christmastime. A cursed quilt, eh? I like the sounds of that :)
I like to read The Name of the Rose at Christmastime, I don't know why, except for the images of winter...
But Little Women! I love that book and I watch the movie every Christmas Eve!
Canary, I would like to send you a Christmas card... I have a little something for you. Would you PM me on Ravelry please?

A little late, I know, but if you like dark, quirky brit mysteries, a surprising number of the Martha Grimes mysteries featuring her character Richard Jury surround Christmas. Um.. The Old Silent and Jerusalem Inn are two I can think of off hand. Nice recurring cast of characters, different plots, and very fun.
