Specs:
Pattern: Tilted Duster, Interweave Knits, Fall 2007
Yarn: seven balls of Lang Yarn - Soft Shetland
Buttons: four very perfect ones snagged from Mac Fab in Toronto
Things I did wrong this time:
Insistent as I am, I used this yarn despite it's being a wee bit on the wrong side of gauge. Fortunately, there doesn't seem to be too many drawbacks (so far the only one I've come across is this garment's tendency to snag itself. Which is rather heartbreaking, but may be due to it's long, flowy nature, rather than my stubborn yarn choice).
I should also have been a bit more careful in the button placement, because this pattern wants to pull apart in the front, instead of lying nicely as it does in the pattern photos. I played with the idea of stitching it into place, but decided to wait on that one. I used exactly all the balls of yarn I bought, with about 12 inches of yarn left over.
Things I feared, but all came to naught:
I was unsure whether this pattern would make me look preggers. As this pic demonstrates, the Duster does no such thing.

I didn't really think this pattern would suit me until I saw yours. Can I ask much ease you allowed (negative perhaps)?
The smallest size is the one I made. It happens that that size is very close to my own measurements. Luckily this pattern is open across your widest part (the bust), so it won't really pull at all.

I just came over from the Craftster KAL and just had to say how gorgeous your sweater is! It looks spectacular on you, and you've definitely inspired me to make one of my own!
Oh my goodness - I was kinda iffy on this project, but yours looks SO good.. Kim was right when she said yours looks better than the pattern photo!!! It is absolutely amazing. I really would like to start knitting sweaters and am looking for the perfect first project.. would you recommend this one or say wait until I have a bit more experience??? Great job!!!

There's good and less good points about making this project your first sweater. One good thing is it's a bit more forgiving in the fit department, since it mostly hangs open. It's also pretty straightforward on the long part, with the ribbing, that hangs down. The upper part is an interesting construction - not difficult! but different than a run-of-the-mill sweater. Another good point is it'll give you experience seaming in sleeves, (which no one likes!!!), picking up stitches, placing buttons and making buttonholes.

I actually can't recall what the gauge is, but I know it's not chunky.
